Lloyd’s is the world’s specialist insurance market. Unlike many other insurance brands, Lloyd's is not a company; it's a market where our members join together as syndicates to insure risks. Much of Lloyd’s business works by subscription, where more than one syndicate takes a share of the same risk. Business is conducted face-to-face between brokers and underwriters in the Underwriting Room. Since the 1990s, almost 40% of Lloyd’s global annual premium has come from the U.S. Today Underwriters at Lloyd’s have licenses in Illinois, Kentucky and the U.S. Virgin Islands and are approved surplus lines insurers in all U.S. jurisdictions except Kentucky. Lloyd’s is also an accredited reinsurer in all 50 states.
